Frequently Asked Questions PDF Print E-mail

ImageWhether you are considering getting a card from your agency or employer, or have already received your card you no doubt have a lot of questions about how the card works, where you can use it and a whole host of other queries.

This section will try to answer all your questions - maybe even some you haven't yet thought of.

How Do I Apply?
In order to qualify for a OnePay card you need to work for an agency or employer that is part of the OnePay scheme.  If you have been issued with a reference number by your employer you can order your card here.  If you don't have a reference number, or are not sure whether or not your employer is part of the scheme, give us a call on 0845 652 1971 and we will let you know.

Will I Get Paid Late?
No. Providing we receive your wages on time then your funds will normally be available by lunchtime on your regular payday.

I Don’t Have A Bank Account, Can I Get A Card?
Yes. As long as you are legally resident in the UK you can get a OnePay card.

I Already Get Paid Into A Bank Account, Is The Card Right For Me?
That Depends. If you already have your own account with a debit card then the OnePay card is probably not right for you. On the other hand if you share a bank account or only have a basic ‘cash’ account the OnePay card is ideal for you.

How Much Will it Cost?
Unlike many other cards there is no monthly fee or other fixed charges for having a OnePay Card. There are some usage charges, details are in the terms and conditions.

How Will I Get My Money?
Once you have been paid you can access your money at cash machines, shops and even spend money online. What’s more you don’t have to spend all your money at once. Any unused funds are kept on the card ready for you to use whenever you want.

How Does The Text/SMS System Work?
If you have registered your mobile number with us during your application you can receive text (SMS) notifications on your payday and request/receive account details, such as card balance.

The payday text notification is free and will be sent automatically to cardholders with a registered mobile number. The text will confirm that you have been paid and that your wages have been added to your card.

If you have not registered your mobile phone number with us, or you have changed your number since you applied for your card, you can register/change your mobile number by simply logging into your Prepaid Card Account on this website. Once you have logged in simply chose the Edit/Update Your Details option.

Will The Card Run Out?
Each card is valid for two years. As long as you are still using the card, a new one will automatically be issued before the old one expires.

What Happens If I Move Agency or Change Employer?
No Problem. Simply give us your new agency or employers details and we will do the rest.

Is It Like A Credit Card?
The OnePay card is a Prepaid card and is not the same as a credit card – though it does share many characteristics with a credit card. With a credit card you are effectively borrowing money from the card issuer whilst a prepaid card simply gives you access to funds that have already been added to the card. See more information here.

Can I End Up In Debt?
As you can only ever spend money that has already been loaded you cannot end up in debt on your OnePay Card.

How Can I Check My Balance And Whether I Have Been Paid?
On each payday we will send you a text alert (if you have registered a mobile number with us) telling you ‘You Have Been Paid’. In addition you can check your account balance at most cash machines, 24/7 online via our website, by text or by calling us on 0845 652 1971.

Is My Money Safe?
Yes. Your card is Chip and Pin protected and is the only way your funds can be accessed. You need to ensure you keep your PIN safe and secret at all times.

Do I Have To Get All My Money At Once?
You can take out as much or as little of your cash as you want. You can leave money on your card from week to week, safe in the knowledge that it is waiting there for you when you need it.

If I Lose My Card Will I Lose My Money?
As long as you keep your PIN number secret then if you lose your card, your cash should be safe. Call the lost and stolen helpline immediately and we will cancel your current card and arrange for the issue of a new one. Any money you had on the old card will be transferred automatically to the new one. Remember the sooner you report the loss the better chance we have of protecting your money.
